NEW DELHI: After airhostesses, it's the turn of Air India pilots to face the heat for reporting late to airports and delaying flights. As many as three international flights were delayed in Delhi on Tuesday because of their commanders reporting late to the airport.
The airline is now studying the "track record" of these senior captains and has warned of strict action if they are found to be habitual late comers. AI had last month sacked 17 airhostesses who reported late for work. "It is not very often that three captains get late on a single day and delay the flagship flights of an airline," said an official. AI, which has the lowest on time performance for domestic flights among all Indian carriers, is trying to improve its punctuality as it is set to join Star Alliance this summer. But the airline saw its OTP crashing in February due to cabin crew who reported late to airports and delayed flights.
