FLYING instructor Jim Greenshields is back on terra firma after a gruelling 13-hour challenge which saw him set a new world record for the mostaeroplanes flown solo in one day.
Jim, from Dunkeswell, flew 43 aeroplanes from the village aerodrome to 2,000ft and back for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The challenge saw him fly a vintage Tiger Moth biplane and a WW1 fighter replica among other aircraft.
Jim said: “I would like to thank all the aircraft owners who donated theirplanes for the day, and particularly the ground crew without whose help it could not have happened.
“We could have flown more but we simply ran out of aeroplanes. Maybe next year?”
It was all for a good cause, with the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, which fulfils wishes for children and young people with life-threatening conditions, benefiting from his sky-high attempt.
Jim was moved to support Make-A-Wish in answering 1,000 wishes in 2014 after watching some of these wishes being granted in videos.
