If your primary aim is to be in Aviation Industry, and you are planing to chose AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE, then it is a great choice. But if you are thinking that after doing AME you will change your profession or go to any other fields and need other sectors of job prospectus, in that case AME course may not at all be a great choice.As you know for AME you need to join DGCA approved Institute and they will teach you only regarding aircraft and related subjects like Civil Aviation Requirements, Aircraft Eletrical/Instrument/radio Navigation Systems etc subjects, which are totaly different from any other B.Tech subjects. Moreover you need to get experience in aviation to get any job like ojt and on live aircraft. So, if you want to build good career inside aviation industry gain experience as well as knowledge.And the most important thing regarding AME is that it's a Liscence course, you will not get any degree even after getting years of experience or clearing type rated DGCA exams. Due to this you will not become a Graduate and not be able to apply for jobs requiring atleast graduates degree in any stream, also not eligible to appeare in CDS, AIRFORCE OR INDIAN ADMINISTRATION SERVICES Examination. For these exams you need to again do any correspondence degree course side by side with your AME or after AME to change your carrer from aviation to any other trade.
Now lets talk about another engineering courses, like B.Tech in Mechanical/Aeronautical/Eletrical, if you are doing these courses then you also have the chance to join aviation industry. You must be an Engineering Graduate or Diploma holder, in other case, you can be a retired Air force person who has got 20 years or above experience from the same field. So in my view AME course is only for those who have aimed for aviation only as their career choice. Because, those who done AME course, can’t work in any other fields than Aviation industry. Their world is limited under aviation industry unlike other graduate engineers. AME course itself not considered as degree of diploma in India, so that student can’t go further studies nor jobs other than Aviation.
